How to Deal with Picky Eaters

The most important thing about trying to feed nourishing meals to picky kids (or adults) is….don’t give up!!!

πŸ’š Let me tell you what happened this week:
You can see there is roasted beets in her lunch…this is after we helped her change her mind about them! This week I made a chickpea pasta with roasted vegetables and lotsa roasted beets. Ella took a nibble and said she didn’t like it. She wanted to eat anything but that dinner. And we said no. Eat your dinner. Food is for nourishment not just taste and you have enjoyed beets many times before…today is no different. She decided not to eat…the evening went on. Before bed she was hungry…..we presented her her dinner again.

This time she said okay. She ate it….and lovveeddd the beets. She kept saying beets beets beets over and over again. The next day she asked for beets for breakfast and dinner. Here we are today with beets for lunch.

Moral of the story:
Be patient with the process of offering food. Be persistent that they eat what you cook. And do not give up!!! Know they won’t starve and will eventually eat it when they are hungry. Keep nourishing and celebrate the small wins. Yay for beets πŸ₯°πŸ‘

Follow these tips:
1)
Taste buds change. And kids judge on texture and sight. Try to play games with them. Blind fold them or tell them to close their eyes and you feed them. But before you feed them, tell them its okay if they don’t like it but they have to try it. Try it is necessary! And also tell them WHY they will like this food, and WHY their body will love them for it.
2) Make your vegetables taste delicious so that your kids are more likely to trust you when you give them new food. Check out this blog.
3) When they say “I don’t like that” Ask them “what about this do you think you don’t like?” This is then leading into curiosity and understanding, instead of judgment and upset.
